Maks Dannecker stellt sich der Auflichtung des wiedererkennbaren Bildraumes. Ein Unterfangen, das nach wie vor erstaunlich schwierig ist. Suchen doch das Auge und der Instinkt immer etwas, das sie kennen, das sie erklären und einordnen können, noch in unfassbarsten Schemen, noch im allergraphischsten Clair-Obscure. Hier aber nun wird eben dieses sichere Wohlgefühl entzogen. Nach wie vor sind Räume zwar erkennbar. Durch Reduktion, Konzentration, durch das Vexierspiel der Montage entrücken sie jedoch zunehmend der Realität, auch wenn man allzu gerne bereit ist, sie dafür halten zu wollen. Sind sie Konstrukt, sind sie Gedankenpalast? Charade? Nun, eines ist gewiss, sie lassen einen so schnell nicht los, untergründig, dafür aber umso nachhaltiger: was immer auch ihre Anspielung uns bedeutete…

Maks Dannecker sets about brightening the recognizable visual space. An undertaking that continues to be astonishingly difficult. After all, the eye and the instinct always search for something that they know, that they can explain and classify, even in the most incomprehensible schema, even in the most graphic chiaroscuro. Here, though, precisely this secure feeling of ease is withdrawn. Though spaces continue to be discernible, as a result of reduction, concentration, as a result of the distorting game of montage they increasingly draw back from reality, even when one is all too willing to take them as such. Are they a construct, are they a castle in the air? Charade? Well, one thing is certain, they stay with you a while, under the surface, but all the more lasting for that: whatever their allusion meant to us…
